Meeting of the Border Bishops

Twice a year, usually in September and in March, the bishops of dioceses in Texas which border with Mexico, meet with our counterparts on the Mexican side of the border. This last weekend we met in El Paso, and had an opportunity to discuss pastoral matters of mutual concern to us and to our people. We also visited a parish which serves young children from Central America and Mexico who are being held in immigration detention centers. We also said prayers at the border fence with the the faithful from El Paso, Texas, and Las Cruces, New Mexico, (on the American side) and with faithful from the diocese of Juarez (on the Mexican side).

We also crafted and voted to approve a statement having to do with the urgent need to pass comprehensive Immigration Reform. We appeal for a reform that protects children and the unity of families. I will be posting that statement in both English and Spanish shortly.
