Dante: la alta vocación del Poeta / The high vocation of the Poet

Paraíso XIV, 121:

 "così da' lumi che lì m'apparinno s'accogliea per la croce una melode che mi rapiva, sanza intender l'inno". 

"aquellas luces que allí se me aparecieron produjeron alrededor de la cruz una melodía que me arrebataba a pesar de no comprender el himno"

"Those lights which there appeared to me drew in around the Cross a melody that snatched me away though I could not apprehend the hymn."

Lights that swirl to form a melodic form, Dante expresses how clarity and harmony converge in the image granted him of the Crucified in Canto 14 of the Paradiso. The reader can neither see the lights nor hear the hymn, but Dante pushes us to compose the combination in our imagination. He thus moves us forward to see in not seeing, and hear in not hearing something this life does not experience. Thus the high vocation of the Poet.

Interesante, e impacta fuertemente, cómo Dante combina la imagen de luces con la forma de melodía. El lector no puede ver las luces ni oír la melodía; sin embargo llegamos a componer en la imaginación algo más allá de lo terrestre. Sin duda, Dante nos empuja a tomar un paso adelante hacia lo que no se puede concebir en esta vida. Alta vocación la del poeta.
