Dante: la alta vocación del Poeta / The high vocation of the Poet

Paraíso XIV, 121:

Lights that swirl to form a melodic form, Dante expresses how clarity and harmony converge in the image granted him of the Crucified in Canto 14 of the Paradiso. The reader can neither see the lights nor hear the hymn, but Dante pushes us to compose the combination in our imagination. He thus moves us forward to see in not seeing, and hear in not hearing something this life does not experience. Thus the high vocation of the Poet.


Interesante, e impacta fuertemente, cómo Dante combina la imagen de luces con la forma de melodía. El lector no puede ver las luces ni oír la melodía; sin embargo llegamos a componer en la imaginación algo más allá de lo terrestre. Sin duda, Dante nos empuja a tomar un paso adelante hacia lo que no se puede concebir en esta vida. Alta vocación la del poeta.

Un momento de respiro con Cervantes

Al punto hacían saber a su amo la presa del lobo, dábanle el pellejo y parte de la carne, y comíanse ellos lo más y lo mejor. Volvía a reñirles el señor, y volvía también el castigo de los perros. No había lobos, menguaba el rebaño; quisiera yo descubrirlo, hallábame mudo. Todo lo cual me traía lleno de admiración y de congoja. «¡ Válame Dios!», decía entre mí, «¿ quién podrá remediar esta maldad? ¿Quién será poderoso a dar a entender que la defensa ofende, que las centinelas duermen, que la confianza roba y el que os guarda os mata?».

Si entendemos la palabra "ironía" como "burla fina y disimulada" este texto es uno de los mejores ejemplos que he encontrado en mi (limitada) lectura. Por ser ironía no deja de ofrecer materia abundante para la meditación. Y sigo meditándola.

Reading "The Joy of Love"

To the Faithful of the Diocese of Brownsville:

My dear Brothers and Sisters, beloved  by God and the Blessed Virgen,



The Holy Father, Pope Francis, recently published an Apostolic Exhortation directed to the whole Church entitled, “The Joy of Love.” We give thanks to God for the ministry of the Successor of Peter in the Church. In the exhortation, the Holy Father speaks to us about the mystery of love in the family. He clearly reaffirms the doctrine of the Church about the nature and mission of the Christian family in the world, and at the same time, he provides us with pastoral guidance on how to face without fear the difficulties we presently encounter as Christian families participating in the great unfolding of the human family.

At the outset, I would like to emphasize that the pope’s exhortation offers a profound and poetic teaching about the beauty and joy present in the love that is lived daily in the family. “The Joy of Love” is a document filled with the biblical teaching about the grand project of God for families. For my part, I would like to encourage you, families in our Dioceses of Brownsville, to search for moments to discover personally the richness and beauty of what Pope Francis, our father and pastor, is saying to us. The pope’s encouraging words move me deeply; when I read them, I sense that the pope has given us direct access to his fatherly heart.

The communications media frequently focus on one aspect or another of the papal teaching, controversial points we could say, and are often unable to offer a contextual orientation to help us understand the voice of Peter within the Church. First, I would like to make clear that the pope has not modified the doctrine of the faith, nor has he wanted to modify the canonical norms of the Church. What he has wanted to do is motivate the whole Church to reorient her priorities and pastoral perspectives. A great many families are living under circumstances of crisis, and it is urgent that we look for creative ways to better accompany (acompañar mejor) all families, especially vulnerable families hurt by the “throwaway culture”.

To accompany means to open pathways of participation and integration for any person who searches for a relationship with Christ inside his living body, the Church. It is a truth of human experience that a suffering turns into a kind of hell when it is lived in isolation; and it is a truth of grace that the wounds of life begin to heal when we are accompanied by persons who love us in the manner of Jesus. The Lord shows his love for us by relating himself to us, and he asks that his Church seek how to initiate healing relationships with those who find themselves isolated and wounded.

The relationship is a beginning, it opens a door. Many times entering through the Holy Door that is the Lord Jesus, is a gradual process and requires patience. What is certainly true is that there is no accompaniment and gradual process if first there is no openness to a relationship with other people. I hear the clear voice of the pope asking all of us to make every possible effort to accompany one another, with patience and tenderness, in the process of letting unfold what it means to have a mature relationship with Christ.

Peter, as a pastor, always seeks to do all that is possible to attend to the injured sheep, but he never denies the truth that the Lord himself left us as the announcement that heals and saves. On the contrary, that announcement, tenderly shared and applied, is what heals. If someone tells us that he or she cannot follow the way of Christ in the Church, let it not be because we were the ones who closed the doors to that benevolent grace which leads to conversion and reconciliation.

I will have more to say about this topic in the future, nevertheless, for now it is helpful to remember what the pope himself says at the beginning of the letter: “I do not recommend a rushed reading of the text. The greatest benefit, for families themselves and for those engaged in the family apostolate, will come if each part is read patiently and carefully, or if attention is paid to the parts dealing with their specific needs. (AL 7)”

When I was a small child, my mother would read Bible stories aloud to us, as well as stories from other books. Perhaps parents could choose parts of the pope’s letter to share with their children, especially those who are of adolescent age. A well-selected paragraph, shared aloud, directing attention to mystery of the family, could inspire dialogue and a family culture of “good counsel”.

I feel obliged, for indeed a bishop is also a father, to help families accomplish what I am asking of them. For this reason, I will try in the following weeks to highlight some of the pope’s teachings, so that families can share them peacefully within the family environment. I will offer some comments regarding what the pope tells us with the purpose of guiding your reading.

To begin, then, the pope says in the first chapter (AL14): 

“Significantly, the word which appears most frequently in the Old Testament after the name of God (YHWH, “the Lord”), is “child” (ben, “son”), which is itself related to the verb “to build” (banah). Hence, Psalm 127, in speaking of the gift of children, uses imagery drawn from the building of a house and the social life of cities: “Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labour in vain... Lo, sons are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb, a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the sons of one’s youth. Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them! He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate” (Ps 127:1, 3-5). These images reflect the culture of an ancient society, yet the presence of children is a sign of the continuity of the family throughout salvation history, from generation to generation.”

In the entire course of “The Joy of Love” the pope reiterates that the foundation of a Christian family is the grace that God offers us. If we are preoccupied and worry about the future, without taking notice of God’s grace today, without praying to the Lord so that today and every day he may give us strength and light for our journey, then in vain do we build our projects and plans (in vain do the builders labor). The Christian family has confidence and hopes for the future because the Lord walks with us, and his presence has its effect when we are in contact with him through family prayer.

I would like to mention another point about the text of Psalm 127, cited by the pope. He speaks about children, as constructors (builders) of the city. Not all of us have children, but we are all sons and daughters, and this implies that we all have family ties and form part of God’s plan for the family. Further, all of us, as adults, have responsibilities towards future generations. As sons and daughters, and as people responsible for the formation of our youth, we are all builders of the city.

The Psalm tells us that family life cannot be isolated from the great theme indicated by the use of the word “city.” The city, in the biblical context, means the wider society, the complex of family and social relations, interwoven to form the great human family. As the pope stated, “The welfare of the family is decisive for the future of the world” (AL 31). Certainly, taking care and promoting the wellbeing of our families is decisive for the future of the world. We assiduously ask the Lord to help us with his grace for such a challenge and mission so urgent and so noble.

Mis queridos hermanos y hermanas, muy amados por Dios y la Virgen,



El Santo Padre, el Papa Francisco, publicó recientemente una Exhortación Apostólica dirigida a toda la Iglesia, titulada "La alegría del amor". Le damos gracias a Dios por el ministerio del sucesor de San Pedro en la Iglesia. En la exhortación el Papa nos habla sobre el misterio del amor en la familia. Reafirma claramente la doctrina de la Iglesia sobre el carácter y la misión de la familia cristiana en el mundo y al mismo tiempo señala con su dirección pastoral cómo enfrentar sin miedo las dificultades que hoy en día encontramos como familias cristianas participando en el gran desarrollo de la familia humana.



Al inicio quisiera enfatizar que la exhortación del Papa ofrece una enseñanza profunda y poética sobre la belleza y la alegría presente en el amor vivido en lo cotidiano de la familia. "La alegría del amor" es un documento repleto con la enseñanza bíblica sobre el gran proyecto de Dios para la familia. Por mi parte, quisiera animar a ustedes, familias en nuestra Diócesis de Brownsville, a  buscar momentos para descubrir personalmente la riqueza y la belleza de lo que nos dice nuestro padre y pastor, el Papa Francisco. Las palabras alentadoras del Papa me conmueven mucho; cuando las leo, siento que el Papa nos da acceso directo a su corazón de padre



Los medios de comunicación a menudo se enfocan en un aspecto u otro de la enseñanza papal, puntos controvertidos podríamos decir, a veces sin poder ofrecer orientación contextual para ayudarnos a entender la voz de Pedro dentro de la Iglesia. Primero, quisiera aclarar que el Papa no ha modificado la doctrina de la fe, ni ha querido modificar las normas canónicas de la Iglesia. Lo que sí ha deseado es motivar a toda la iglesia a reorientar sus prioridades y perspectivas pastorales. Muchísimas familias están viviendo circunstancias de crisis, y urge que busquemos maneras creativas para acompañar mejor  a todas las familias, especialmente las familias vulnerables, heridas por la cultura del descarte.



Acompañar significa abrir pasos de participación e integración para cualquier persona que busca relación con Cristo dentro de su cuerpo vivo, la Iglesia. Es una verdad de la experiencia humana que el dolor se vuelve infierno cuando se vive aislado; y es una verdad de la gracia que las heridas de la vida empiezan a sanar cuando nos acompañan personas que nos aman a la manera de Jesús. El Señor muestra su amor relacionándose con nosotros, y pide que su Iglesia busque cómo iniciar relaciones sanadoras con los que se encuentran aislados y heridos.



La relación es un inicio, abre una puerta. Muchas veces entrar por la Puerta Santa que es el Señor Jesús es un proceso gradual y requiere paciencia. Lo que es muy cierto es que no hay acompañamiento y proceso gradual si primero no hay apertura a la relación con otras personas. Oigo la voz clara del Santo Padre pidiéndonos hacer todo el esfuerzo posible para acompañarnos unos a otros, con paciencia y ternura, en el proceso de desarrollar lo que implica la relación madura con Cristo.



Pedro, como pastor, siempre busca hacer todo lo posible para atender a las ovejas heridas, pero nunca niega la verdad que el Señor mismo nos dejó como anuncio que sana y salva. Al contrario, ese anuncio, tiernamente compartido y aplicado, es lo que sana. Si alguien nos dice que no puede seguir el camino de Cristo en la Iglesia, que no sea porque fuimos nosotros los que les cerramos las puertas a aquella gracia benévola que conduce a la conversión y reconciliación.



Tendré más que compartirles sobre este tema en un futuro, sin embargo por ahora es útil recordar lo que el Papa mismo dice al inicio de su carta: "no recomiendo una lectura general apresurada. Podrá ser mejor aprovechada, tanto por las familias como por los agentes de pastoral familiar, si la profundizan pacientemente parte por parte o si buscan en ella lo que puedan necesitar en cada circunstancia concreta" (AL 7).



Cuando yo era chiquillo, mi Mamá nos leía en voz alta historias de la Biblia o de otros libros. Quizás los papás podrían escoger partes de la carta del Papa para compartir con sus hijos, especialmente los que están en la edad de la adolescencia. Un párrafo bien seleccionado, compartido en voz alta, dirigiendo atención al misterio familiar, podría inspirar diálogo y una cultura familiar del buen consejo.



Me siento obligado, pues también el obispo es un padre, a ayudar a las familias hacer de algún modo lo que yo mismo les pido. Por esa razón, trataré en las próximas semanas a destacar algunas de las enseñanzas del Papa, para que puedan las familias compartirlas tranquilamente dentro del ambiente familiar. Les ofreceré algunos comentarios sobre lo que nos dice el Papa con el fin de ayudarles orientar su lectura.

Para empezar, el Papa dice en el primer capítulo (AL14):



"Es significativo que en el Antiguo Testamento la palabra que aparece más veces después de la divina (yhwh, el «Señor») es «hijo» (ben), un vocablo que remite al verbo hebreo que significa «construir» (banah). Por eso, en el Salmo 127 se exalta el don de los hijos con imágenes que se refieren tanto a la edificación de una casa, como a la vida social y comercial que se desarrollaba en la puerta de la ciudad: «Si el Señor no construye la casa, en vano se cansan los albañiles; la herencia que da el Señor son los hijos; su salario, el fruto del vientre: son saetas en mano de un guerrero los hijos de la juventud; dichoso el hombre que llena con ellas su aljaba: no quedará derrotado cuando litigue con su adversario en la plaza» (vv. 1.3-5). Es verdad que estas imágenes reflejan la cultura de una sociedad antigua, pero la presencia de los hijos es de todos modos un signo de plenitud de la familia en la continuidad de la misma historia de salvación, de generación en generación".



En todo el curso de "La alegría del amor" el Papa reitera que el fundamento de la familia cristiana es la gracia que Dios nos ofrece. Si nos preocupamos y nos mortificamos sobre el futuro, sin advertir a la gracia de Dios hoy, sin rezarle al Señor para que hoy y todos los días que nos dé fuerza y luz para el camino, en vano construiremos nuestros proyectos y planes (en vano se cansan los albañiles). La familia cristiana tiene confianza  y esperanzas para el futuro porque el Señor camina con nosotros, y su presencia tiene su efecto cuando estamos en contacto con Él por medio de la oración en familia.



Quisiera notar otro punto sobre el texto del Salmo 127, citado por el Papa. Habla de los hijos, como constructores (albañiles) de la ciudad. No todos tenemos hijos, pero todos somos hijos, y esto implica que todos tenemos vínculos familiares, y formamos parte del proyecto de Dios para la familia. Además, todos, como adultos, tenemos responsabilidades hacia las generaciones que nos siguen. Como hijos e hijas, y como responsables por la formación de los jóvenes, todos somos constructores de la ciudad.



El Salmo indica que la vida familiar no se puede aislar del gran tema indicado por el uso de la palabra "ciudad". La ciudad en contexto bíblico significa la sociedad amplia, el complejo de las relaciones familiares y sociales, entretejidas para formar la gran familia humana. Como bien dice el Papa, "El bien de la familia es decisivo para el futuro del mundo" (AL 31). Ciertamente, cuidar y promover el bien de nuestras familias es decisivo para el futuro del mundo. Le pedimos asiduamente al Señor que nos ayude con su gracia para tal desafío y misión tan urgente y tan noble.

No recuerdo si logré entender lo que quería; probablemente no, porque hasta la fecha me quedo perplejo. Pero sí logré agregar algo, que no es lo que busca uno, pero ni es nada.)

La Pasión de Cristo anuncia el triunfo de la misericordia de Dios



La Pasión de Cristo revela los fundamentos de la herida humana, y manifiesta la fuerza del amor de Dios. Debemos de aprovechar las Pascuas del Señor para profundizar nuestra relación con Él, meditando la gloria de su Cruz, y pidiendo la gracia que nos ofrece el Resucitado por medio de su don del Espíritu Santo.

Son tres espíritus que se manifiestan durante la Pasión del Señor.

El espíritu del mundo se evidencia en cada vuelta. Los discípulos no pueden vigilar con el Señor mientras está en el huerto de su agonía. Eso se llama flojera espiritual. Pedro niega que haya conocido al Señor tomado preso. Eso se denomina cobardía espiritual, y ser dominado por el miedo. Poncio Pilato no tiene la fortaleza para insistir que en Jesús no ha hallado crimen ninguno. El tropiezo personal de Poncio Pilato, por ser tropiezo oficial del gobierno, desató inmensas consecuencias. También lo de Poncio Pilato fue una forma de cobardía, el tipo que resulta de decidir que no vale la pena defender a un pobre inocente.

Todos estos ejemplos indican que la debilidad humana realmente constituye un espíritu de flaqueza, incapaz de mantenerse firme delante de la injusticia o la crueldad. Puestos en esas circunstancias, ninguno de nosotros podríamos presumir de haber actuado de otra manera. El Hijo de Dios sabe muy bien de que somos hechos, y con plena libertad se expuso a este desfile de egoísmo para revelar a nuestros ojos la gravedad del problema que nos aflige.

Pero hay más. El Espíritu del Mal opera dentro de este teatro donde el espíritu del mundo prevalece. Lo que hace el Maligno es agitar y manipular la debilidad humana para cumplir sus propios designios. Si el espíritu del mundo busca cumplir sus gustos personales sin advertir a las necesidades de la justicia y la misericordia, el Espíritu del Mal busca dirigir el conjunto de flaquezas para cumplir su último deseo. Y no cabe duda, su deseo principal es destruir la vida humana; el Malo es espíritu de destrucción. Y eso lo vemos claramente en la crueldad de los soldados que azotaron a Jesús, y en cómo Herodes y Pilato, con agendas propias, conspiraron para deshacerse del problemita del Nazareno. Los dos tenían sus objetivos, pero el Espíritu del Mal los animó para obtener el resultado deseado: La muerte de Jesús. Y el Maligno tomó como premio extra la desesperación del traidor. De hecho, yo estoy convencido de que al Maligno no le importan nuestros pecados y debilidades en sí, sino sólo en cuanto nos llevan por el camino de abandonar la esperanza en la misericordia y el perdón de Dios.

No podemos tomar consuelo al pensar que estas crueldades terminaron en los tiempos antiguos. No podemos pensar que por los avances culturales, la debilidad humana frente a la injusticia ya no hace tanto daño, o que el Maligno tiene poco campo por donde arrastrarse para cumplir sus deseos de destrucción. Hoy en día existen “amigos” de los desamparados que fácilmente se olvidan de ellos cuando la conversación decorosa entre los cómodos y poderosos lo requiere. Y no faltan los Pilatos de hoy, muy capaces de permitir el sufrimiento de inocentes, como los no-nacidos o los niños inmigrantes, para cumplir los gustos de los que venden seres humanos para consolidar ganancias. El juego del enemigo es divulgar un espíritu de flaqueza y resignación frente al mal que efectivamente denigra y destruye la vida humana.

Con mayor razón tenemos que meditar la Pasión para entender cómo Dios desea insinuar la victoria de su amor y de su misericordia en la vida de cada uno y en todo el mundo. El Espíritu de Dios actúa en la Pasión del Señor primeramente por medio de la solidaridad entre Dios y el hombre, y luego, con expresiones de solidaridad entre los hombres mismos. El espíritu del mundo y del Maligno han sido vencidos porque Jesucristo es el Hijo de Dios que unió su propia persona con lo humano. Se hizo hombre. Dios está siempre “con el ser humano” porque la Encarnación es irrevocable. Y en la Pasión se expresa totalmente solidario con nosotros; Muere. Y además, muere injustamente y con bastante crueldad—experiencia de muchos y no solo los peores.

La extensión efectiva de la gracia de la Encarnación empieza a manifestarse en el arrepentimiento de Pedro, y en la ayuda del Cirineo, quien se puso a cargar la Cruz. También se muestra en el ladrón arrepentido, gritándole a Jesús que se acordara de él; y en la confesión del soldado romano, quien admitió que Jesús era un hombre inocente; y en Nicodemo, quien puso a disposición de los discípulos la tumba nueva para que recibiera el cuerpo del Crucificado. Estás señas de solidaridad con Jesucristo Nuestro Señor, señas de compasión y fortaleza humana indican – en la oscuridad de la Pasión--  por donde vendrá la luz de la Resurrección. En este sentido, el triunfo de la misericordia que se manifestará plenamente en la resurrección del Señor y en el don del Espíritu Santo el día de Pentecostés, ya está presente en la narración de la Pasión del Señor.


El Resucitado  nos dará en plenitud su espíritu de fortaleza y sabiduría, su Espíritu Santo, precisamente para renovarnos por dentro con este amor solidario entre Dios y nosotros, y entre nosotros mismos como seres humanos. Necesitamos este Espíritu para resistir la flojera y la resignación delante del Mal, y para poder anunciar claramente que la victoria de Dios infundida en nuestros corazones es lo único que puede salvar al ser humano.


Dediquemos pues, los días de Pascua a las obras de misericordia, porque son señales vivas de la victoria de Cristo. No hemos recibido un espíritu de debilidad o de flaqueza espiritual, mucho menos un espíritu de resignación delante del sufrimiento humano. Hemos recibido un espíritu de fortaleza y sabiduría, para poder atender sin miedo al Cristo que sufre hoy en día entre nosotros. El Señor ha resucitado, seamos resucitados con Él.

The Passion of Christ announces the triumph of God’s Mercy





Christ’s Passion reveals the foundation of the human wound, and shows forth the strength of God’s love. We need to look to the Easter season to deepen our relationship with the Lord Jesus, meditating on the glory of his Cross so as to receive the grace that the Risen One offers us through the gift of the Holy Spirit.



Three spirits show themselves during the Lord’s Passion.



The spirit of the world is evidenced at every turn. The disciples could not keep watch with him while he was in the garden of his agony. This is called spiritual laziness. Peter denies to have known the man taken prisoner. This is called spiritual cowardice, and being dominated by fear. Pontius Pilate does not have the fortitude to insist that Jesus has not committed any crime. Pontius Pilate’s personal blunder, because it was an official blunder of the government, unleashed immense consequences. Also, what Pontius Pilate did was an act of cowardice, the type that results from deciding that it is not worthwhile to defend an unfortunate and innocent human being.

All these examples indicate that human weakness truly constitutes a spirit of frailty, unable to remain firm in the face of injustice or cruelty. Placed in those circumstances, none of us could presume to have acted differently. The Son of God knows very well of what we are made, and in full freedom he exposed himself to this awful parade of selfishness in order to open our eyes to the gravity of the problem that afflicts us.



But there is more. An evil spirit operates within this theater where the spirit of the world prevails. What the Malignant One does is agitate and manipulate human weakness to fulfill his own purposes. If the spirit of the world seeks its own likes and preferences without taking into account the greater demands of justice and mercy, the evil spirit tries to guide these conjoined weaknesses to fulfill its ultimate desire. And there is no room for doubt, its principal desire is to destroy human life; Evil is a spirit of destruction.  And this we see it clearly in the cruelty of the soldiers that whipped Jesus, and in how Herod and Pilate, with their own agendas, conspired to get rid of the “little problem” of the Nazarene. Each had their objectives, but the Spirit of Evil animated them to obtain the final result: Jesus’s death. The Evil One took as an extra prize the traitor’s despair. In fact, I am convinced that the Malignant One does not care so much about our sins and weaknesses in themselves, but only insofar as they take us down a path to abandon hope in the mercy and forgiveness of God.

We cannot take comfort in thinking these cruelties ended in ancient times.  We cannot think that because of cultural progress, human weakness in the face of injustice no longer causes much harm, or that the Evil One has little space in this world within which to drag himself around causing destruction. There are “friends” of the forsaken today, who easily forget about them whenever polite conversation among the powerful requires it. And there is no shortage of Pilates today, quite capable of allowing the innocent to suffer, like the unborn and immigrant children, to fulfill the wishes of those who sell human beings to consolidate profit or power. The enemy’s game is to spread about a spirit of weakness and resignation in the face of the evil that effectively denigrates and destroys human life.



For all the more reason, then, we should meditate on the Passion to understand how God wants to insinuate the victory of his love and his mercy in the life of everyone and in the whole world. The Spirit of God acts in the Passion of the Lord, foremost through the solidarity between God and the human race, and then, with expressions of solidarity amongst people themselves. The spirit of the world and of the Evil One have been defeated because Jesus Christ is the Son of God who united his own person with a human nature. He became man. God is always “with the human being” because the Incarnation is irrevocable. And in his Passion, he expresses totally this solidarity with us; He dies. And furthermore, he died unjustly and with great cruelty-- the experience of many, and not just the worst among us.

The effective extension of the grace of the Incarnation begins to show itself in Peter’s repentance, and in Cyrene’s move to help Jesus carry the Cross. It is also shows itself in the penitent thief crying out to Jesus that he remember him; and in the confession of the Roman soldier, who admitted that Jesus was an innocent man; and in Nicodemus, who made available to the disciples the new tomb that would receive the body of the Crucified. These signs of solidarity with Jesus Christ our Lord, signs of compassion and human strength, indicate -- in the obscurity of the Passion – whence shall come the light of the Resurrection. In this sense, the triumph of the mercy that will manifest itself in the Resurrection of the Lord and in the gift of the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost, is already present during the Passion of the Lord.

 


The Risen One will give us the fullness of his Spirit in courage and wisdom, his Holy Spirit, precisely to renew us from within with this love in solidarity between God and us, and between ourselves with one another. We need this Spirit to resist the spirit of laziness and resignation in the face of evil, and to be able to announce clearly that God’s victory, poured into our hearts, is the only thing that can save the human race.

 


Let us, then, dedicate the Easter season to the acts of mercy, because they are signs of the victory of Christ. We have not received a spirit of weakness or a spiritual frailty, much less a spirit of resignation in the face of human suffering. We have received a spirit of strength and wisdom, to attend without fear to the Christ that suffers today in our midst. He is risen; let us be raised up with Him.
